The Battlefords North Stars came from behind to defeat the Humboldt Broncos 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday.

It was Humboldt getting out to a quick start in the game, when Kaleb Dahlgren scored his third goal of the season just 3:08 into the first period.

The Broncos made it 2-0 later in the period when Evan Thomas deposited his first marker of the season from Tristen Elder and Brayden Camrud.

A strong Broncos performance would continue throughout the second period before the Stars finally found the scoreboard on a buzzer beater goal of sorts.

With just five seconds left in the middle frame, Levi Kleiboer sent his team into the locker room on a high note after cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Broncos, who opened their season with back-to-back extra time wins over Notre Dame, saw MacGregor Sinclair beat goaltender Jacob Wassermann for the game-winning goal at 3:42 of overtime.

A high-paced game saw the Broncos and Stars go back and forth with 79 shots on goal in total, in a preview of what could be the top two teams in the division once the season ends.

Wassermann stopped 34 of 37 shots faced in his second straight start for the green and gold, while Taryn Kotchorek turned aside 40 pucks on 42 shots to earn the win.

With plenty of road games to start the season, the Broncos are gearing up to play a majority of their next stretch of games at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

On Friday, the Broncos welcome Nipawin for the first of 10 home games in a 14 game span. The two teams will then have a rematch back at Centennial Arena in Nipawin on Saturday.
