The Broncos continued to show they wouldn't roll over on the season as they put up a pretty good fight against the Battlefords Stars but in the end they were downed 5-2 Tuesday night.

The victory completes a season sweep for the Battlefords over Humboldt, the Broncos struggled against the Stars all year long, they were outscored 37-9 in seven games. That being said the Stars dominated a lot of teams this season and on Tuesday night they were awarded the regular season pennant and more importantly home ice advantage through out the Canalta Cup playoffs.

At one point halfway through the second period, the Broncos had fought back to tie the contest at 2-2 on goals by Trevor Posch and Chris Van Os-Shaw but a sleepy few minutes late in the middle frame cost them according to Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko.

"The one short-handed goal and the power-play goal back to back really killed us."

The Stars scored twice in the first on goals by Igor Leonenko and Jake McMillen and it looked like it was going to be one of those nights, the Stars had won eight straight including a throttling of the Flin Flon Bombers over the weekend.

The Broncos put together 15 solid minutes in the second but it was the final five that closed the door on their chances. Overall Klimosko was still impressed with his team's effort.

"If we keep a tie game there who knows what could have happened in the third. It was a good game, it really was from us. It was a great effort from a lot of people, we can't really complain about that."

McMillen picked up his second of the night while the Stars were down a man, Layne Young had the PP tally.

McMillen would cap the scoring in the final minute with an empty net goal to complete the hat trick. That's his second in three games.

Klimosko continued to say that at least they looked like they belonged in the same rink.

"Darn rights. it was nice to see. We're in the same league and sooner or later you've got to be able to compete against these guys. We did a really good, at the start of the year it was men among boys but it's amazing how that maturing process goes."

Carter Seminuk continues to get better as well, the 18 year-old Broncos' goaltender stopped 40/44 in the loss. Taryn Kotchorek made 20 stops in the win.

Humboldt failed to score with the man advantage in three chances, the Stars were 1/2 plus the short-handed marker.

The Broncos have two chances left to snap their now 25 games losing streak on the road, Wednesday they are in Kindersley to face the Klippers. The pre-game show of KMK Sales' Broncos hockey begins at 7:15, face-off is 7:30. Humboldt will conclude their season Saturday in Yorkton.
