The St. Brieux senior boys basketball team claimed their second provincial championship in a row last weekend in Saskatoon at Hoopla 2019.

Their semi-final match-up was against Birch Hills on Friday afternoon. St. Brieux would win it by a score of 86-61.

With the win St. Brieux would move on to play Norquay on Saturday evening. St. Brieux led the game early, but Norquay would mount a comeback.

"We had a 20 point lead throughout the game, but then we started to get tired and run out gas, but we couldn't let the season end with a loss, so we played as hard as we could," said Janmark Rosalin, point guard for St. Brieux.

The St. Brieux Crusaders would win 85-83 with six Grade 12 students wrapping up their season on a high note. Being in Grade 12, the six leaders were determined to finish their high school basketball career with a win.

"It really means a lot to us because we've worked so hard throughout this whole year," said Victor Apao, a forward for the Crusaders.

The boys on the team sent their thanks to the fan base and all the volunteers that helped make the championship season a reality.

"The support here is amazing when you have big games, such as Hoopla and you half the town watching and we had the loudest crowd, more than anyone else in the whole tournament, it's like having a sixth player on the court," said Dailyn Thorlakson.
