Following a successful first season, ball players in east-central Saskatchewan are looking forward to year two in the Richardson Pioneer Men's Fastball League.

"Richardson Pioneer is happy to continue our partnership with the league and are excited to see the continued interest in fastball in the area," explained Wadena Director of Operations Carter Kolybaba.

The Wynyard Blues captured the first league championship, defeating the Fishing Lake Mariners.

Wynyard will host the season-opening game on May 3, when they welcome the Fishing Lake Cubs.

The 2017 season will see a new team enter the league, as the Stoney Creek Braves join play.

"My players are excited to play in the Richardson Pioneer League. I played a few games with the Cubs last year but I am excited to have our own team," stated Manager Sid Keshane.

Other teams in the league are the Wadena Wildcats, Foam Lake Merchants and Rosebud Royals.

The season wraps up on June 24 and 25 with a double elimination playoff tournament.
