Starting out their two game southeastern road trip, the Broncos dropped a 5-2 decision to Weyburn on Friday night.

It was teddy bear toss night at Crescent Point Place, and it didn't take long for the bears to fly, as Humboldt-born Red Wings forward Dawson Atamanchuk scored 1:47 into the game.

After a slight delay in cleaning up the bears, the Broncos quickly responded, scoring 11 seconds later off the stick of Logan Hunter.

Weyburn regained the lead seven minutes later with leading scorer Ben Hiltz getting the goal. Again, the Broncos were quick to tie the game, as Logan Boulet scored 22 seconds later to make it 2-2.

An early second period power play goal on a 5-on-3 put the Red Wings up 3-2. They added two more goals in the third period.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan said the game matched his thoughts going in.

"I thought it was two good teams going at it. The pace was real quick," he explained, adding that they had their opportunities in the game. "Quality scoring chances, we didn't give up any. Unfortunate for us, when they did shoot the puck it was finding its way into the net."

Haugan says being shorthanded two players to start the second period was puzzling to them.

"We battled through a little bit of adversity, and I really thought by midway through the second we took over and were the really dominant team," Haugan said. "We were doing everything we asked, we just didn't find a way to score tonight."

Red Wings goaltender Arik Weersink stayed strong coming off his Goaltender of the Week award.

"The difference was the goaltending tonight, it really was. Weersink was really good for them and was probably the first star tonight," Haugan concluded.
