The culmination of a provincial AAA midget baseball championship and a Canada Cup of Baseball title is the realization for four members of the Muenster Red Sox.

Last weekend, at the Canada Cup Muenster's Brody Frerichs batted .500 en route to the tournament's top hitter award and the championship, he was still beaming Wednesday.

"It's unreal, Team Saskatchewan has only won it twice so we never go into the tournament with high expectations like some other teams but we pulled it off, it was unreal."

Saskatchewan was up and down through the preliminary round starting off with a domination 8-0 win over British Columbia. They would drop three straight after that, a 2-0 loss to Alberta, a 6-5 defeat at the hands of Ontario, BC rebounded to oust them 10-4 before they responded with a 7-3 victory over Alberta. Needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive in their final game they outlasted Ontario 6-2 to finish with a record of 3-3.

That put them into the semi-finals where they faced off versus Quebec. They ended up winning 11-10 in extra innings in a wild contest that Frerichs says he has never seen the likes of.

"I don't think I have, we were down 8-0 but we got to the bench after the second inning and our coach talked to us a little bit and nobody thought we were out of it yet. We had lots of baseball to play still, the group we had this year was unreal, nobody got down and we battled back and we came out with the win in that game."

Picking up the win in the title contest was Parker McRae, another member of the Red Sox. He says it was a great way to rebound after admittedly not pitching his best in a round robin loss to Ontario.

"It's good knowing your coach will allow you to have another opportunity because he knows I can pitch better, I knew I can pitch better, it just shows the kind of confidence he has in his players."

McRae went on to admit is was nice to get some revenge on BC in the final too as they breezed to a 6-1 win.

"It felt good beating them for sure, last year they beat us pretty good so coming around to beat them by five like we did was pretty special."

Frerichs, McRae plus Logan Hofmann and Tyler McWillie were all part of Team Saskatchewan and will all now try to collect a national AAA pennant in Quebec next week. The community of Muenster will hold a send off pep rally Sunday at 5pm with a bar-b-cue coinciding.

Once that's complete, the three minus McRae who is aged out will attend the Toronto Blue Jays Tournament 12 event at the Rogers Centre. Frerichs will be part of Team Prairies(Sask & Manitoba) for the third time, Hofmann and McWillie will take part for the first time.

You can hear from both McRae and Frerichs below in their interviews with Bolt FM's Clark Stork.
