It took an extra inning, but the Muenster A's Under-16 Girls Softball team claimed the provincial championship in the 'C' division on Sunday.

The A's hosted the seven team tournament, running the table and seeing no losses against them over three days.

After defeating Dinsmore in the semi-final, the A's met Langenburg in the championship game. Muenster got up 4-0 before Langenburg began the comeback, according to coach Jewel Varga.

"It was a really tight game. We got one in the first, two in the second and one in the fourth," she said. "Their first run came in the fifth inning, so we thought we had it in the bag, but maybe not. Then they scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh."

Last year, the A's lost out in the provincial semi-finals and Varga says that the team felt redemption in being able to turn around and get the championship this year.

"The girls were really excited. Glad to do it at home, proud parents, everybody was happy."

Hosting a three day tournament with six other teams involved can be quite daunting, and Varga added that without extra support, it wouldn't be possible to put on these events.

"We can't thank our parents and volunteers in the booth and grounds crew enough," she explained. "Mother Nature was a little mean to us on Saturday morning, and that grounds crew was just awesome."

Other teams at the tournament included Moosomin, Kindersley, Kerrobert and Macklin.

With several other softball provincial tournaments taking place, there were a pair of other teams who made it to championship games.

In the U19 'C' Girls tournament, the Watrous Royals finished in second place, falling in the final to Rosetown.

Watrous also took silver in the U14 'C' Girls competition, which they hosted. They lost to Kindersley.
