Baseball Saskatchewan's Team of the Year for 2017 comes from Humboldt.

The AAA Mosquito Dodgers were handed the honour on Saturday at a year-end awards banquet in Saskatoon.

"It's pretty exciting for the boys. They are deserving of it," said Coach Paul Huls. "They were pretty pumped up about it, and I think maybe they didn't even realize how big of a deal it is for them."

The team was made up of 10 and 11-year-old players. They competed in the Saskatoon AAA league during the regular season and won the provincial championship in July.

Huls said that the team's key to success was just playing ball.

"They enjoy playing the game, and they don't really let the ups or the downs get to them. If they have a bad inning or make a bad play they shrug it off and keep going."

He added that there is potential for more accolades in years to come for the players.

"There is definitely some major talent upcoming in Humboldt and Muenster. They're a very good group out that way too," Huls said. "I think if we can keep quality programs going, we will see the same sort of results."

At provincials, the Dodgers lost just one of six games played en route to a 14-1 win in the final over Saskatoon.
