Basketball players of all ages will once again be coming to Lake Lenore this summer.

The Hometown Hoops basketball camp turns 20 in July.

"It's a pretty special camp to be able to do this in rural Saskatchewan. It's exactly what the Weseen family wanted when they started it," said Lake Lenore Lancers Senior Girls Head Coach Curtis Strueby. "We like to provide an affordable place to come and learn the skills of basketball and positively interact with other kids."

Strueby says that the continued success of the camp is attributed to one family.

"It's been the Weseen family. The amount of respect they have earned from people all over the province and their knowledge has people wanting to come back to Lake Lenore, or come for the first time."

Last year's camp saw over 60 players attend. Age categories range from kids in Grade 1 all the way up to Grade 12 and new for this year is those going to play their first year in college.

In addition to having success for registration numbers, Strueby says that they have also been able to bring in high-quality coaches to give the camp extra impact.

"The quality of coaches we have been able to bring in over the last few years is quite something, so we are lucky to have that as well."

He added that confirmed for this year's camp so far is Joe and Margaret de Ciman, Jill Weseen and Pat Telfer. Strueby will be helping coach as well as some others to be added in ahead of the camp.

The camp runs three days from July 24 to 26 and there is no shortage of what players will learn.

"They go hard. There is a lot covered. Not only the basic fundamentals of the game, but as you get older, you also learn about the more in-depth portion of the game."

Skills and drills are based around ball-handling, passing, shooting, defence and other important parts of the game, including team concepts and strategies.

Those looking to send their kids to the camp can take advantage of special early bird pricing until June 12. More information about the camp can be obtained through area schools or by calling Val
