It's been an excellent run for Head Coach Chris Hamilton and the AA Midget Humboldt Broncos but all good things must come to an end.

The reigning back-to-back Centre Four Hockey League champions and current provincial AA title holders season came to a close Wednesday night with a 4-3 loss to the Saskatoon Riverkings.

The Broncos let game one slip away after jumping out to a 3-0 lead but Saskatoon responded with four straight, the Riverkings also came from behind in game two to take the series in a sweep.

Damon Vanderlinde spotted the Broncos with an early 1-0 lead at the Elgar Petersen Arena, that stood until the middle period when Saskatoon tied it 1-1.

Daigon Elmy restored the one goal lead just beating the second period buzzer but the early moments of the third turned the tied, the visitors scored twice to take a 3-2 lead, Austin Hiltz slapped a power-play goal in to knot the game at 3-3 but the talented club of high end first year midget players was too much for the Broncos as they scored their third of the final frame to secure the win.

"It's a tough one to swallow having as many fans out as we did," admitted Hamilton Thursday morning. "The boys played hard and we ran out of gas in the third period."

The final shots were 27-23 Humboldt.

The Riverkings downed the Broncos in the provincial play downs two seasons ago, they went on to become Saskatchewan champions. The format changed a season ago, the Broncos were the CFHL winners so they represented the north in the final that they won over Notre Dame. The Riverkings defeated Swift Current two years ago in the provincial final.

Hamilton expressed his gratitude to all the players over his three years, he said he constantly had committed, devoted athletes.

"That's the guys coming up, really only one guy is here from the first years and six guys from last year, so that's all the guys coming up and stepping up into different roles and playing that position. The boys played well, we just didn't come up the right way we wanted this year."

Meanwhile it was a different feeling for the Muenster Midget Flyers Wednesday, Matthew McGrath's double overtime winner in Strasbourg vaulted them to the East Central Minor Hockey League championship with a 4-3 victory. That series went three games.

Also picking up an East Central Minor Hockey League title was the Peewee Watrous 2 team(pictured above).

They edged Davidson 4-3 Wednesday night on home ice to clinch their series in three games.

Of note, in the Bantam final of the ECMHL, Wynyard edged Muenster 6-5 in game one of the best of three Wednesday, game two is slated for likely Lake Lenore on Monday.
