Four players and three different rinks will represent our region at this week's Tankard in Kindersley.

St. Gregor's Dallan Muyres throws lead stones for Steven Laycock's Saskatoon rink. His brother Kirk is the team's third and they head into the provincial men's curling championship defending back to back titles. The team went on to win a bronze medal at the Brier in Calgary.

Dallan said they are now in the midst of their best season which could be bad news for the competitors.

"We kind of have somewhat of a major win under our belt, the Portage Prairie Classic. That was a really, really positive win for us. It put us into the final event of the year at the Grand Slam Champions Cup so a very, very strong year so far."

There is a couple other locals in the field to keep an eye on, Humboldt's Dustin Kalthoff, he plays third for Jason Jacobson and Muenster's Bruce Korte is skipping his new rink out of the Saskatoon Nutana. They recently won a Saskatchewan tour event in Humboldt.

As for the Laycock lead, he talked about how their game has evolved since they formed ahead of the 2012-13 season.

"It's more time in the gym, it's more time practicing, thinking about strategy, finding ways to make your teammates better. Little things like that that you never really considered before becomes very important now where we are in our careers."

And what if the Laycock rink comes up against the Korte team in the final or Kalthoff?

"Well that would be interesting wouldn't it?" Muyres laughed about an hour ahead of leaving for the west-central Saskatchewan city.

"It's quite possible, everyone there is really, really strong. We're going to have to fight for every point, every draw and every take out."

The draws begin at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon. Laycock will meet William Coutts in draw one, Jacobson opens against Dean Kleiter and Korte will get started in draw two at 7:30 versus Darren Camm.

The final is slated for 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
