This past week in Ottawa at the Brier Team Saskatchewan which includes Kirk, Dallan and Lyle Muyres as the coach finished 5-6, just on the outside of the playoff picture.

The St. Gregor born Kirk said the 11 games were filled with plenty of 'what ifs.'

"We just had a few what ifs here and there, a few opportunities slip and the whole week could have been different but that being said our numbers were really good. The Brier field as everyone knows was ridiculous so you know a couple here or there another way we would have been in the playoffs and you never know what happens."

They finished the round robin in sixth spot overall which is a drop back from their bronze medal performance but as many rinks have stated since the event, this was the deepest field ever at the national men's curling championship.

Muyres was quick to agree.

"Yeah, I think so. I think there is a lot of factors for it, the teams are working harder than they ever have. They're a little more fit, they have the longevity, the brooms play a factor, all that stuff comes together and the field was just good, there was no upsets in the bunch."

Alberta's Kevin Koe ended up the victor on Sunday night defeating Brad Gushue 9-5.

The Saskatoon Nutana based Steven Laycock rink will get back on the ice Thursday in Victoria for the Grand Slam of Curling Elite 10 event.

Muyres said there isn't a much better place than the British Columbia capital to try and rebound.

"It makes it easier to have a short memory after that, this is a nice place to come after the Brier and continue the season in the Grand Slam here. We're looking forward to getting it going, it will be on Sportsnet all week and hopefully we get a chance to make the playoffs and make a run for it and get some money in the bank."

Their first game will be at 12:30 local time against Brendan Bottcher out of Edmonton. They meet the newest Brier champs from Alberta in draw 2 at 5 o'clock.

The Rachel Homan rink is also in the field, her foursome will be the first women's team to compete in a Grand Slam event with the men since Sportsnet acquired to broadcasting rights in 2012.
