Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench saw another example of how the Humboldt Broncos tragedy has touched people across Canada when he visited an Amherst, Nova Scotia arena project.

He met a local hockey team, the North Nova Penguins, who are playing in the PeeWee Maritime Championships.

The players had made Bronco helmet decals and jersey logos for the team and had sold them to make money for the Bronco families.

Muench’s Facebook post of the meeting has been viewed around 20,000 times, largely by Maritimers, he said.

“It’s kind of neat to see that connection between Humboldt and a similarly sized community … that’s thinking about us. They have a Junior A team, a very similar community-owned team.”

Muench visited Amherst while attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference in Halifax last week.
