The HCI Mohawks football team continues with preparations in the lead up to their first game of provincial playoffs.

Humboldt earned a ticket to the quarterfinals with a 31-14 home win over La Ronge on October 20.

The Mohawks will travel to Esterhazy for Saturday's game.

"They will have a lot of confidence having finished first in their conference, so we know that we need to be sharp and get off to a good start in that game," noted Head Coach Cory Popoff.

Esterhazy finished with five wins to just one loss in their conference, which features Yorkton Sacred Heart, Broadview, Melville and Foam Lake.

Popoff said that a key to success for the Mohawks will be to limit mistakes, and play physical football.

"I thought our intensity was at its highest against La Ronge, and if we continue to bring that physicality to our game, I think we have a pretty good chance to find continued success."

The Mohawks ended the regular season with a record of three wins and three losses in their conference, which has Melfort, Nipawin and Tisdale as well.

Across the board in the 3A bracket, the winner of Humboldt and Esterhazy will travel to play the winner of Kindersley and Fort Qu'Appelle in the semifinals.

The other side will see Melfort host Sacred Heart, while Lumsden is home to Martensville.

In the 2A division, Nipawin welcomes Melville, Unity travels to Shaunavon, Delisle is home to Indian Head, and Foam Lake will host Tisdale.
