For the third straight year, the Middle Lake Avengers girls basketball team is the last one standing in the 1A classification, after they defeated Fillmore to win the provincial championship.

A tightly contested battle saw the Avengers take a 29-28 lead into half-time before they were able to further themselves later in the second half, to secure a 59-51 win.

Rayna Olynuk led all scorers with 22 points.

Coincidentally, the last time a team won three straight 1A titles, it was Fillmore between 2008 and 2010, with their third win coming against Middle Lake.

It was Middle Lake's fourth straight appearance in the championship game.

Alyssa Shannon had 19 points, as the Wynyard Bears retained their 2A girls provincial title, downing Regina Harvest City 72-40.

The Bears held a 42-20 lead at half-time before pulling away in the second half.

In addition to being their second straight championship, it was also the third title in four years for the Bears, as they also won in 2013.

Much like the Avengers, it was also Wynyard's fourth straight appearance in the final.

In a re-match of last year's 2A boys final, the St. Brieux Crusaders battled Ecole Canadienne out of Saskatoon.

The Crusaders found themselves trailing 39-35 at the break, as they were after back-to-back championships.

An even second half saw Ecole Canadienne able to hold off St. Brieux to win the provincial title 77-71.

Andrew Babb had 19 points for the Crusaders in the loss

Despite finishing with a silver medal, it was the fourth year in a row for the Crusaders at Hoopla, and they have earned hardware each year, winning two gold as well as a bronze medal in 2014.

The HCI Mohawks girls team showed their growth throughout the season both in it's early stages and the final stages in their 69-60 loss to Indian Head in the 3A bronze medal game.

Humboldt got out to a slow start, trailing 23-7 after the first quarter.

As the game wore on, the Mohawks started to slowly battle their way back into the game, trailing 41-24 at the half.

The third quarter was a turning point for HCI, getting the deficit down to 13, trailing 51-38.

Their big push came midway through the fourth quarter when they closed the gap to just five points.

Indian Head was able to squeak away with the win to take the bronze, but the Mohawks finished the season strong, battling back from a 24 point deficit throughout the game.

In the championship game, Lumsden edged Clavet 58-52.

The Melfort Comets earned back-to-back 4A boys titles, as they cruised to a 81-66 win over the Weyburn Eagles.

Melfort led 59-35 at the half before maintaining their edge throughout the second half.

Curtis Glanville had 27 points for the Comets, who defeated Meadow Lake in last year's championship game.
