The Middle Lake Senior Girls Basketball team won the Provincial Championship in Hoopla this past weekend.

Middle Lake came into the tournament as the number one seed and played against the number four seed, Southey. Middle Lake dominated Southey in the first round with a score of 71-19.

"We had a really good start to that game and they just didn't know how to respond," said Kelsey Parsons, a Grade 12 veteran on the team that plays point guard and guard.

Middle Lake would tip off against Gladmar in the Provincial Championship on Saturday evening. The Middle Lake Avengers would be victorious with a score of 75-50 to win the 1A Girls Championship.

"An opportunity to win Hoopla does not come around very often so it was nice to capitalize."

This year the team has three players graduating this year. Kelsey Parsons, Katelyne Richardson, and Krystal Dobrohoczki will leave behind their knowledge for next year's veterans.

"They've gotta stay dedicated like they were this year and they'll have some strong leadership for next year, so they'll be just fine."
