A number of local girls high school voleyball teams are vying for a provincial title this weekend.

10 different teams in categories from 1A to 4A divisions will take part in tournaments across Saskatchewan starting Friday afternoon and concluding Saturday.

In the 1A category, Englefeld and Rose Valley will represent the area. Englefeld lost in the semi-final of the championship in 2013. Rose Valley also fell in the semis that year. They are in Medstead and will also compete against the hosts, Plenty, Whitebear, Frontier, Rouleau, Saskatoon Legacy Christian, Edam and Fillmore.

In 2A action in Porcupine Plain, Foam Lake and Invermay will go for a provincial crown. Also in their tournament is the hosts, St. Walburg, Pierceland, Davidson, Kahkewistahaw, Langham, Asquith and Kerrobert. Foam Lake is appearing in provincials for the third straight year, Invermay was a quarter-finalist last year in 1A.

In 3A play, the Wynyard Golden Bears(pictured above) are in Rosthern. They are joined by Naicam, Wakaw and Waldheim. The Bears made it to the quarters in 2013 and 14, Naicam is making their first attempt since 2012, Wakaw has been dominant in the category, they are silver medalists in the 2A division in both 2013 and 14, they have won seven gold medals in nine years. Waldheim brought home silver in 2013. Also competing in the 3A event is Langenburg, Oxbow, Wilkie, Lashburn, Kinistino and the host from Rosthern Jr. College.

The Winston High Wildcats from Watrous(as seen above) are participating in the 4A championship tournament in Rosetown. They last won the 3A championship in 2013. Clavet will also play in their category, they were in the semi-finals in 2010. Rosetown, Caronport, Lumsden, Esterhazy, Nipawin, Tisdale, Notre Dame and unity round out their field.

The top four teams from each pool will play out a bracket draw to determine each provincial championship.

The senior boys teams will play regionals this weekend with a spot in next weekend's provincials on the line.
