Two local curling teams will be in the mix for Under-18 provincial championships.

The Wadena Curling Club will be represented by Dustin Mikush and Karla Friesen's rinks after they qualified through regionals on Saturday.

Hosted by the Humboldt Curling Club, there were two teams competing in both boys and girls playdowns, with the winner being determined through a best-of-three format.

On the boys side, Mikush defeated Jayden Bindig, while Friesen was victorious over Julia Pomedli's rink.

Humboldt's Braden Fleischhacker plays lead for Mikush's rink. The duo was part of the Gold Medal winning team that represented Saskatchewan at the U18 International Optimist Championship in Edmonton last year.

This year has brought a format change, with Curling Canada announcing a new Canadian championship to be played.

Winners of the provincial championship will head to Moncton, New Brunswick to compete in the national playdowns.

The provincial tournament begins on Thursday in Moose Jaw.
