With summer approaching, the curling season is winding down, and the Grand Slam of Curling Players' Championship takes centre stage beginning Tuesday.

The Players' is the second to last bonspiel of the World Curling Tour season, and Steve Laycock is hoping it treats his rink well.

Since the Laycock foursome, with St. Gregor's Kirk and Dallan Muyres formed, they have yet to make the playoffs at the tournament.

Laycock has appeared in the playoff round himself, playing lead for Pat Simmons. His last trip, however, was in 2010.

Taking place in Toronto, the Laycock rink begins their round robin schedule Tuesday at 5:00pm against the hometown John Epping rink.

A meeting with Manitoba's Mike McEwen is up next at 5:00pm Wednesday. They then meet David Murdoch out of Scotland Thursday morning at 6:30, with Minnesota's John Shuster to follow at 1:30pm.

The round robin wraps up Friday at 5:00pm against Brad Gushue.

Playoffs will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Like the Tim Horton's Brier, the Players' has been tough competition for Saskatchewan, with no team based in the province having won the tournament since Kronau's Murray McEachern in 1995.
