The Lanigan Curling Club is set to host the Western Canadian Blind Curling Championship with play beginning Wednesday.

"This is something that in the past, the Lanigan Lions and Lioness Club had hosted. There are some members that were on the organization at the time, and they brought the opportunity to us," stated Michelle Stevenson, a board member with the curling club.

Seven teams will be participating with two from Saskatchewan, BC and Alberta, as well as one team from Manitoba.

"(They have) four to five members on each team and there is one sighted person on each team and they are the spotter for those that are the blind curlers," noted Stevenson.

The event gets underway Wednesday evening at 6:30 with the opening ceremonies, which will involve local curlers according to Stevenson.

"We have involved some of our youth curlers. They will be our flag people and sign carriers. A little bit of everything from the community will be there."

Following the opening ceremonies, play will get underway at 7:30, with draws continuing until Saturday's final which goes at 1:30pm.
