Bruce Korte is admittedly winding down his long, successful curling career but there is still a few slides from the hack left for the Muenster product.

Last season he recruited the services of up and comers Kevin and Dan Marsh and Matt Lang bringing in some youth to the foursome that now curls out of Saskatoon.

They were one of 19 teams in Humboldt this past weekend for the Bella Vista Inn Classic at the Humboldt Curling Club. Korte says returning to the HCC never loses it's touch.

"Oh you bet, this was such a big deal for me when I was little kid to play here because this was like wow! What an arena, they had the molded handles and that was such a big thing for a kid. It's funny when you are a kid you remember all those big things and you take them for granted when you get older."

They ended up falling in the semi finals on Sunday but that was another strong showing on the pebbled ice this season. The rink has clinched a spot at the Tankard plus they will take part in a Grand Slam of Curling event in North Battleford in January.

Korte says he found the right three guys to curl with and they all work well together.

"We've all bought into what we believe in in our system and we're very technical and we've worked on that and we've been very solid. We've had some games this year or whole events we've played right at the elite level and it's been great to see. They are all buying in and I want to share the knowledge I have with what I learned over the years because I never had that."

"I don't care what position you are playing, you have the same valued input that any other guy has and we've always respected everybody as a person. just because I'm the skip doesn't mean I'm right even if I'm really wrong, it's all about the team, just like any sport, put the team first, that's the way to do it."

The Battleford event is January 3rd-8th, Korte mentioned that that's an arena ice event which will be a perfect tune up for the Tankard in Tisdale, also on arena ice in early February.
