Humboldt's Dustin Kalthoff has crossed in to Europe for the next week, as he and curling partner Marliese Kasner take part in the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship.

Held in Karlstad, Sweden, Kalthoff and Kasner are representing Canada, following the provincial championships held in Saskatoon earlier this month.

Despite finishing third in Saskatchewan, they were designated as the team to go to Sweden with previous commitments already for the two teams ahead of them.

Kalthoff and Kasner enter the championship ranked sixth in the World, giving them ample opportunity to be global champions in the growing sport of mixed doubles curling.

The round robin got underway for Team Canada at midnight Saskatchewan time Sunday morning, where they defeated France by a 9-3 margin.

Next up for the duo is Ireland, who they will meet at 3:15am Monday. A pair of games Tuesday morning will see them take on Italy at midnight, and Serbia at 6:30. On Wednesday, Kalthoff and Kasner battle China at 1:00pm, with a game against Australia at 6:30am Thursday to wrap up the round robin.

Playoffs will be played out on Friday and Saturday.

The World Curling Federation is streaming some games on YouTube. They will have the Canada-China game on Wednesday afternoon.
