The second annual Calico Gymnastics Invitational competition took place on Saturday.

The club welcomed teams from Wadena, Weyburn, Battlefords, Prince Albert and Rosetown to join the home team for the day's competition.

Three sessions took place throughout the day and 105 athletes, ranging in age from 6-16 competed.  The athletes competed in general women's artistic gymnastics routines on vault, beam, uneven bars, and floor exercises.

Administrator for the club, Kristin Rogers, says that by starting gymnastics, children can stay active and that it can help them in other sports as well.

"Gymnastics is the foundation of all sports. It helps benefit kids in any sport they're going to play. It's good for spatial awareness, balance and teaches them about dedication and commitment."

Rogers says the club is thankful for this year's sponsors and the time and effort from parent volunteers.
