The Humboldt Broncos got into penalty trouble in the second period again Tuesday night and this time it cost them.

The Notre Dame Hounds finished 3/5 with the man advantage and held off a late Broncos surge to hand Humboldt a 4-3 loss, the first regulation defeat in 11 games at the Elgar Petersen Arena this season.

Back on home ice for the first time since October 22nd, the Broncos got off to a strong start opening the scoring as Michael Korol tipped a Luke Kempf pass past Jordan Greenfield-Flemon to make it 1-0. Stephan Wack picked up one of his two helpers on Korol's sixth.

The Hounds would score the next four however to take over including three in the middle period.

"We talked about that before the game," Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko relayed on the post game show. "They aren't going to score many goals even strength, we knew that going in and we just can't give them those opportunities. What do we do? We really let them have some opportunities tonight, they are a dangerous hockey club."

Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League leading scorer Ben Duperault scored once and had an assist, SJHL rookie scoring leader Adam Dawe also had one of each. Jacob Arsenault beat Garrett Mason in the first, Brandon Sookro was the last to beat Mason, he was relieved after the second allowing four goals on 27 shots.

The Broncos didn't go away in the third and they gave themselves every opportunity to win, Korol scored his second of the night during a Broncos' power-play at the four minute mark from Wack and Connor Swystun.

Xavier Labelle, eight days shy of his 17th birthday scored his first career SJHL goal to bring the green and gold within one but they couldn't muster the tying tally despite a 14-4 shot advantage in the third.

"We pressured them the whole time in that third, we should have buried a few more," Klimosko praised. "We had a lot of good chances, we just couldn't bury. At the end of the day we lost 4-3, that second period hurt us."

Greenfield-Flemon kicked aside 24/27 in the win, the Hounds first in four tries against the Broncos this season. They will meet two more time this campaign.

Carter Seminuk mopped up making all four saves he had to in the third to keep Humboldt within striking distance.

The Broncos lost the overall special teams battle as they were 1/4 with the man advantage.

They will now hit the road for two games in the south, Friday afternoon they will be in Weyburn(2:45 pregame show), then Saturday night they are in Estevan to face the Bruins. That's a 7:30 face-off.

In the other SJHL Tuesday the Battlefords moved five points up on Humboldt for the division lead with a 4-1 win over the LaRonge Icewolves.
