A number of local high school basketball teams will look to punch their ticket to Hoopla and the provincial high school basketball championships on Friday and Saturday.

Regional playoffs take place across the province, which will include a pair of local schools as hosts.

Both the Middle Lake and Lake Lenore boys and girls teams are ranked in the top four of their categories, and will welcome three other teams on the weekend.

In Middle Lake, the boys team, which is ranked number one in Saskatchewan for 1A teams, will play Annaheim at 4:30pm Friday. The girls, who are third, take on Kerrobert at 8:00pm.

The Lake Lenore boys play first at their school. Ranked fourth, they meet Pinehouse at 2:45pm, while the girls, who are also fourth, battle Central Butte at 6:15pm.

Regional finals take place at 1:30 and 3:15pm at both schools on Saturday. Winners will advance to Hoopla in Regina on Friday, March 24.

Elsewhere, in 2A plays, the St. Brieux boys are in Shaunavon for their regional. They take on Wilkie in their first meeting. In 2A girls, the top-seeded Wynyard Bears host a regional. They take on Stobart in their first game, with Osler and Creighton also competing. Foam Lake is in Canora as the fifth seed.

In the 4A category, Humboldt Collegiate Institute's boys team is travelling to Weyburn, where they will meet Regina Johnson at 4:30pm. If the Mohawks win, they would play the top-ranked Weyburn Eagles on Saturday afternoon in the final.

The girls head to North Battleford as the tenth seed. They will meet Moose Jaw Central at 6:00pm, with North Battleford Comprehensive awaiting the winner on Saturday.
