It’s a heartbreak for Humboldt as the Broncos fall 3-2 to the Estevan Bruins in game 7 overtime.

The Broncos led the series three games to one, but an experienced Bruins team that made it all the way to game seven of the SJHL finals a year ago, were able to battle back.

The Bruins had home ice advantage in the deciding game and got their home town crowd on their feet with two goals, 19 seconds apart in the first period. They took a  2-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Broncos showed the resiliency that they carried all season long in the second period.  Goals by Josh Patrician and Regan Poncelet just 31 seconds apart tied the game and stole the momentum away from the Bruins.

As was evident throughout the whole year, the parity between every single team in the league, had players knowing at anytime they could be victorious.

That was the case as no goals were scored in the third period, forcing a game 7 sudden death overtime frame.

In the overtime frame, a scramble at the side of Broncos’ goalie Rayce Ramsay was knocked home by Bruins’ forward Will Koop and sent elation through the Estevan roster.

The season will end for the Humboldt Broncos. However, it will always be looked at as a success by a team that carried an immense amount of weight on its shoulders, and carried the community of Humboldt, the hockey world, and the Broncos back into the playoffs.

It’s always a great day to be a Bronco.
