Not the rain, nor the opposition, could stop the HCI Mohawks on their way to a third straight win to start the 2016 season.

The Hawks thumped the visiting L.P. Miller Bears 44-6 on Friday, improving to 3-0, while dropping Nipawin to 0-3 on the year.

The scoring started with HCI's Morgan Gobiel running it in himself for a touchdown, and the PAT made it a 7-0 game.

Soon after, Joel Zimroz returned a punt for a touchdown. The offence decided to go for 2, and were successful.

Morgan Gobiel then ran it himself for another score, his second of the game, and with the extra point, the score was 22-0 in favour of the hometown Mohawks.

Hayden Reeme also hit pay dirt, making the score 30-0 for Humboldt.

Nipawin did have an answer later in the 2nd half, but missed their convert attempt and were left with just 6 points.

Hayden Reeme scored his second touchdown of the game, and HCI made no mistake on the convert.

To wrap up the scoring, Bray Berchivinsky scored, and when the clock read zeroes, the HCI Mohawks had 44 points on the board, and allowed only 6.

Head Coach Cory Popoff was pleased with the effort.

Mohawks next game is September 30th, when they host the Melfort Comets.
