The Broncos are in a hole following a 3-1 heartbreaking loss Saturday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena with Nipawin in town.

The Hawks squeaked the game winning goal past Garrett Mason with 2:45 left in regulation off the stick of Grant Baetsen advancing Nipawin's quarterfinal series lead to 2-0.

Baetsen scored the games' first goal as well in the second period giving the visitors a 1-0 cushion after 40 minutes of play.

Feeling the urgency of the two game deficit the Broncos did nothing but push the pace and control the final frame making the loss that much harder to stomach.

Trevor Posch tied the contest at 1-1 with his first of the playoffs at 8:46 on the power-play from Parker Wakaruk and Logan Schatz but that was the only one of 18 third period shots that would get by Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League MVP Kristian Stead.

Brett Harasymuk added an empty net marker with 43 seconds left to cap a three point night.

Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko was proud of his team's fight but he says they still need a complete 60 minute effort.

"We played a really good last 40 minutes which was nice to see but it took that long for us to get our legs underneath us and get those nerves out of us. Once we did we did a good job, we played hard for the last 40 and probably deserved two points tonight but that's playoff hockey. That's how tight it is, one unlucky bounce our way and they are up 2-0 in the series."

Overall the shots were 40-36 in favour of the Broncos but they have yet to generate a five-on-five goal in two games.

Stead stopped 39 overall, Mason was 33/35, both goalies were tremendous going save for save but at the end of the day the Broncos need to start producing.

Klimosko, who was a three year Bronco and two time SJHL champion in his playing days stressed that the series is far from over.

"The momentum can change so fast and so quick, you win one game and they might feel the pressure a little bit. It's far from over, that's what we told the guys, they better not think it is. We're going to go down fighting, there is not going to be an easy win for the Nipawin Hawks, I will tell you that right now."

The Broncos did win the special team battle, they were 1/2 with the power-play, the Hawks finished 0/5. In the series Humboldt is 2/5 with the man advantage, the Hawks have been gifted 12 power-plays over the first two games, they have two goals, both coming in the first two periods of game one.
