Given two chances on the power play in overtime, the Nipawin Hawks scored 2:33 into the second overtime period to take Game 1 over the Humboldt Broncos 3-2 on Friday.

Michael Grant scored the winner on the second man advantage of double overtime to send the Hawks to the early series edge.

Nipawin opened the scored with 5:09 remaining in the first period when Tyler Adams scored his second goal of the playoffs.

Adams would later be sent to the dressing room early after a charging major.

The Broncos would capitalize twice on the situation, with Conner Lukan burying a rebound in front for his first goal of the postseason.

Thirty-three seconds after Lukan tied the game, Bryce Fiske deposited his first of the playoffs to give the Broncos a 2-1 lead late in the second period.

As the Hawks went to pull goaltender Declan Hobbs with under two minutes to play, Thomas Lenchyshyn found the puck in the slot and was able to find it home to tie the game with 1:46 left in regulation.

Parker Tobin had another strong game in net for the Broncos, turning aside 44 shots faced.

The Broncos, trailing 1-0 in the series, will look to even things up on Saturday night. Faceoff is once again 7:30pm in Nipawin.
