Logan Boulet scored the game-winning goal seven minutes into the third period, and the Humboldt Broncos held on for a 4-3 win in Flin Flon on Friday.

Boulet's goal came on a play generated by Matthieu Gomercic who circled around the net and found the blueliner in the circle for a one-time blast.

Head Coach Darcy Haugan noted that his team's performance wasn't as pretty as it was gutsy.

"The effort and the energy and the emotion that is required to win in Flin Flon was there tonight," he said. "It wasn't a very clean game by us, but I think a lot of that has to do with a lot of guys it being their first time here at the Whitney Forum."

Gomercic's play on the final goal wasn't the only highlight marker for the Broncos on the night.

Early in the second period Conner Lukan slipped out from behind the net and found Captain Logan Schatz with a no-look, behind the back feed which Schatz tapped home for the goal.

"That's the skill that translates to the next level. To be able to make plays to the weak side. Those types of things catch teams off guard, and Conner was really good tonight and so was that line," Haugan said.

A mad scramble broke out in the game's final minute with a vacant Flin Flon net. Several blocked shots aided the Broncos to victory.

Jaxon Joseph and Gomercic were able to get in lanes to help keep the puck away from goaltender Jacob Wassermann.

Gomercic sealed the win with a blocked shot with five seconds left, clearing the puck down the ice after it bounced back to him.

"Those guys had some extra minutes as we were in the penalty box down the stretch, and that was probably our unsung hero, was our penalty killers in the third period."

Friday's game marked the first of two straight in Flin Flon for Humboldt. A different scheduling format sees the Broncos use just one trip to Flin Flon this season, instead of typically playing in La Ronge as well.

Haugan says that in order to make it a perfect weekend, they will need to clean up some areas of their game.

"It starts with the amount of turnovers, we need to eliminate those. A lot of them started in our own zone with our failed break outs."

Derek Patter and Joseph had the other goals for the Broncos. For Joseph, it is his fourth straight game with a goal.

Wassermann picked up the win in his first game back from the World Junior 'A' Challenge selection camp for Team Canada West.

With the win the Broncos moved within three points of Notre Dame for second place in the hotly contested and newly named Global Ag Risk Solutions division.
