The Humboldt Hammerheads were busy at the Humboldt Aquatic Centre Friday night and they had some friends with them.

Swimmers from Watrous, Regina and Saskatoon were here for the Prairie Central District time trials ahead of the Saskatchewan Summer Games.

Coach Leisl Lefebve says the quick meet was a good way to get the team familiar with each other.

"They've come here so they can meet their teammates, there are swimmers here we've never met before. Get in the water, do a little bit of swimming against each other in a friendly environment and hopefully get some best times that we can take down to Estevan with us."

Lefebve added the event let the swimmers perform in a number of different swim styles that are featured at the Games and not on the regular meet tour.

"In order to actually have an entry time for Summer Games they need to be able to swim those races somewhere and instead of relying on other clubs to try and fit it in to their meet packages. We decided we would invite everyone  here for our district and say here, this is what we're swimming, please come and join us and meet everyone while you are here."

Those include some butterfly races for younger swimmers, longer back and breast stroke plus some freestyle distances.

The Games only happen every four years, for the team going to the event it's possibly a once in a lifetime competition as Lefebve explains.

"For swimming in particular the age range is only four years so if you don't make it this time you never get another shot so the team members that we have are extremely excited, they are ecstatic, they can hardly wait. They were all incredible happy when we called and let them know they were chosen to the team so it's a pretty positive environment all the way around."

There will be a pregames rally in Lanigan on July 14th to send the team off.

The Hammerheads took the weekend off to host this event, they will travel to Swift Current, Melfort, Nipawin, Watrous and Biggar for meets before the Games.
