The Humboldt Hammerheads headed west this weekend, participating in meets in Rosetown and Biggar on Saturday and Sunday.

With warm weather both days, it made jumping in the pool to race something to look forward to. Some cloud cover on Saturday didn’t stop them from swimming.

23 Hammerheads were part of the over 100 swimmers Rosetown hosted on Saturday, giving the Hammerheads the first opportunity to swim outside this season. The day started at 9:30 with individual events, and concluded just before 5 with relays.

By the end of the day, 7 Hammerheads walked away with aggregate medals in their age groups. The medal winners were:

9-10 Boys Gold – Cuyler Brooks
11-12 Girls Bronze – Abbie Cannon
13-14 Girls Bronze – Jordan Nienaber
13-14 Girls Gold – Lauren Hinz
13-14 Boys Silver – Darren Romanuik
13-14 Boys Gold – Jay Eichorst
15-17 Boys Gold – Ryan Hinz

On Sunday, the Hammerheads made the trip to Biggar for another day of competition. Of the 26 swimmers participating on Sunday, 11 came home with aggregate medals.

7-8 Girls Bronze – Rebecca Gabriel
9-10 Girls Bronze – Aidra Angelstad
9-10 Boys Gold – Cuyler Brooks
11-12 Girls Bronze – Abbie Cannon
13-14 Girls Silver – Jordan Nienaber
13-14 Girls Gold – Lauren Hinz
13-14 Boys Silver – Darren Romanuik
13-14 Boys Gold – Jay Eichorst
15-17 Girls Gold – Maya Berscheid
15-17 Boys Bronze – Ryan Hinz
15-17 Boys Gold – Justin Berscheid

These meets were the introduction to the longer races that take place at semi-finals in Melfort this year. For many of the swimmers attending this weekend, this was the first chance to try out the longer distances.

The next scheduled meet is in Weyburn July 15th.
