Seven Humboldt area female hockey players are returning home with a slice of gold around their necks.

Prairie Central's girls hockey team won the gold medal at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford on Saturday.

Following a 3-0 round robin that saw them defeat Rivers West, South West, and Regina, they advanced to the championship game against South East.

In the final game, Prairie Central picked up a 3-1 win to take top spot at the games.

Humboldt's Kiana Leicht, Nicole Girolami, Lauren Hinz, and Drew Vipond, as well as Bridgette Vedress of St. Brieux, Sydney Martin from Watson, and Lanigan's Cassadi Klapak all pitched in to help lift Prairie Central to the gold medal.

Leicht, Klapak, Vedress, and Martin continue a busy weekend Sunday night, as they join their East Central Fillies teammates for Game 2 of their opening round playoff series against Saskatoon in the North Sask Female Bantam Hockey League.
