There will be some local representation at the 2017 Saskatchewan Senior Men's Championship.

The qualifier for northern teams began on Thursday, with five teams securing spots in the upcoming provincial tournament.

Brian Humble's Saskatoon-based rink won the first 'B' qualifier, defeating Gordon Bell 4-3. That foursome has Verne Anderson of Wadena playing lead.

After dropping a pair of early games, Kelvington's Brent Franko foursome bounced back to win three straight games and secure the fifth and final spot with a 7-2 win over Jonah Sweatman.

Defending champion Brad Heidt of Kerrobert secured the first qualifying spot on Saturday morning.

The five teams advancing from the north are joined by three who advanced through the southern playdowns to make up the eight team field vying for the provincial title.

Swift Current is the site of the 2017 provincial championship, which will run from February 22 to 26.
