A former Humboldt Mohawk has decided to continue his football career at St. Francis Xavier University.

Just short of 22 years of age, Samuel Schlitz, who played with the HCI Mohawks from 2011 to 2015 has now started his U-Sports career with STFX in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The Linebacker/Defensive Back signed the deal last week after being in talks with the team over the last few months.

Through his career, Schlitz has played with the Mohawks for four years and with multiple teams in the Canadian Junior Football League for another four years. After playing the sport for eight years, Schlitz considered hanging up the cleats.

"I've always been considered a small guy as a linebacker, I was always told I wouldn't be able to compete at the position. Then a team that's top four in the country decided to give me a chance and I almost quit this year and the year before because of a leg injury and you just keep going," said Schlitz.

While playing for STFX, Schlitz will be taking a bachelor of arts with hopes of rolling into post-graduate education. Although Schiltz stated he would keep playing football if he had the chance.

"The goal is to play as long as I can, so if I could take part in the combine, have a chance to get drafted, or put on a practice roster I'll take it."
