It's been a good start to days as a Humboldt Bronco for Bryce Fiske.

The soon-to-be 20-year-old defenseman was acquired from the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Monday night for defenseman Antonio DiPaolo and the rights to a pair of players.

"It's a great feeling," said Fiske on coming to Humboldt. "I was in La Ronge for a three and a half years and me and the coach decided it was time for me to go elsewhere. I am from La Ronge, and so I sat at home for about a week, so there was lots of emotions there."

The Broncos, too, were thrilled to acquire the SJHL veteran.

"Lots of experience, high compete level. He'll be able to help our power play," explained Head Coach Darcy Haugan. "He was available and we felt we needed to make that move to give our lineup a little jump start."

Fiske says that the success of the Broncos is evident when you walk inside the Elgar Petersen Arena.

"You look at the rafters and see all the banners and obviously Humboldt has had a lot of success with this program, so it is exciting to be part of this team."

Having played minor hockey in northeast Saskatchewan, Fiske says there was some familiarity when he got to Humboldt.

"I did play hockey with five or six guys on the team in the past, so it made it easier to walk in and make myself comfortable."

Fiske was teammates with Tristan Elder and Derek Patter in La Ronge last season before Elder was shipped to Humboldt during the season.

Patter was acquired in the offseason by the Broncos.

It wasn't all sunshine and lollipops for Fiske out of the gate, as he was on the ice when the Kindersley Klippers scored just 12 seconds into his debut with the green and gold.

"I settled in after that and things started to go my way and our way as a team and we came out with the win, so that is always exciting," he noted.

The Broncos skated away with a 7-4 win that night and most recently defeated Yorkton 6-0 on Thursday, which already matches the number of wins Fiske saw in La Ronge this season.

As far as what Broncos fans can look forward to over the final 41 regular season games, Fiske says he brings a little bit of everything.

"More of an offensive role. I like to throw the body around and lay some guys out. Make a good first pass and make sure I am in the game at all times."

Fiske, who has two goals and five assists on the season, will appear in his 200th career regular season game at some point this season with Humboldt - likely in January.
