One more day in the pool, one more day of personal bests for three local swimmers.

Sunday, July 7th was the final day of competition at the Man Sask Open Championships in Winnipeg.

Darren Romanuik, Zak Freeman, and Isaac Wiebe all had two events lined up for the final day of competition, where they all came out of the morning prelim sessions with personal best times. The three summer swimmers from Saskatchewan were all from this area, coming from the Humboldt, Watrous, and Saskatoon summer clubs.

"That's quite an accomplishment for these young men their first time there," said Coach Leisl Lefebvre.

The meet is held over 4 days, running from Thursday afternoon through Sunday evening. Events are swum as a preliminary race in the morning and timed final in the afternoon. You have to place in the top 16 in the morning to qualify for finals in the afternoon.

Darren Romanuik finished 11th in the 100 Breast, moving up two spots in the rankings. Isaac Wiebe qualified sixth and finished fifth in the same race. Wiebe also qualified in the 50 Butterfly and swam to a Silver medal with a time of 27.20. Zak Freeman qualified ninth in the 50 Backstroke with a time of 31.08. That finish moved him up six places in the rankings.

Isaac Wiebe was named high point Saskatchewan male for 14-15-year-olds overall. He has also been named to the Saskatchewan West Canada Summer Games team. He has decided to move to a year-round club to continue his training.
