The University of Ontario Institute of Technology has signed star Humboldt Broncos defenceman Bryce Fiske, the team announced in a news release Tuesday.

Head coach Curtis Hodgins welcomes the addition of another right-hand shot to the defence core as he continues to balance out his blue line in preparation for the 2018-19 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season, the release said.

Fiske said playing university hockey has been his goal since he was 17.

"I grew up in a small town and started my career in La Ronge, my hometown and later traded to Humboldt this year, which are two small junior hockey towns. When I flew in yesterday it was a bit of a shock, but I'll adjust and I'm excited and happy to be here," he said in the release.

Fiske was a rock for the Broncos blueline after being acquired from the La Ronge Ice Wolves in October, racking up six goals and 22 assists in 41 regular season games.

The Oshawa school finished 6th in the 10-team standings of the OUA East division last season.
