The Broncos had the chance to put the Bruins in a deep hole but will come away with a split in the first two games of the series after losing 4-2 on Saturday night.

Owen Guenter scored the lone goal in the first period assisted by Michael Clarke and Chase Lacombe.

In the second, the Bruins battled back. Goals from Jayden Davis just seven seconds into the middle frame and Eddie Gallagher halfway through the period gave Estevan a 2-1 after 40 minutes.

The Broncos tied it up six minutes into the third with Mitch Zambian scoring his first career SJHL playoff goal, assisted by Zack McIntyre and Josh Patrician. However, that’s as close as they would come. Bruins captain Jake Heerspink picked up the game winner with under 10 minutes remaining and Jayden Davis added an empty netter for his second goal of the game to give the Bruins the crucial victory.

Rayce Ramsay stopped 36 of 39 in net for the Broncos.

The series now shifts to Humboldt for game 2 and 3 starting on Monday, March 18th.
