The ice at the Elgar Petersen Arena was filled with female hockey players who might get the opportunity to don the East Central Fillies logo in the future.

The East Central Fillies held ice sessions on Sunday, April 14th to gauge the interest in female hockey across different age categories.

"It was really good, we had about 70 girls show up in all the age levels. We weren't anticipating that big of numbers, so it was fantastic. It was a really great turnout. There was a lot of interest from the parents and it's looking like we will probably have a team at every age level next year," said Carla Jule, Manager of the Bruno Pee Wee Flames.

The Fillies are looking at adding Bantam, Pee Wee, Atom and Novice age categories to its already existing Midget program. The goal, along with growing the sport at a younger age, was to try and bring all the female teams in the area under the East Central Fillies banner.

"It's looking like we're well on our way to building that program. Female hockey is on the rise here and that's awesome."
