No shortage of work goes into creating events, and when you're a volunteer, it can be even more pressing.

Two members of Skate Humboldt were recently honour for their volunteerism.

Humboldt's Larry Durand was the recipient of the SaskEnergy Regional Champion Volunteer award. The award recognizes outstanding contributions made to skating at the club and regional level.

Nadia Stevenson, a former Humboldt resident, who still contributes to the efforts of Skate Humboldt, was given the Section Volunteer award. It is presented to an active and registered adult volunteers who efforts have produced positive results in their sport.

Durand first joined Skate Humboldt as a parent in 2007 when his daughters signed up for the program. He then became CanSkate Coordinator the following year and has served various other roles since, including Club President for four years.

This year, he was one of the main organizers as Humboldt held the Regional Invitational Competition and CanSkate FunFest in February.

According to his nominator, Durand is one of the reasons why skating continues to be popular in the city.

Stevenson has been involved in skating for over 25 years, serving as data specialist for several competitions, as well as being a member of the competition and officials committee.

She has volunteered her time to officiate provincial and national competitions.
