One special young man in the Humboldt area has organized and held a great fundraiser for an even greater cause.

Duke Brochu held his annual Skate-a-Thon on Saturday, right here at the Elgar Petersen Arena. All proceeds will be going towards juvenile diabetes research and funding.

When asked about what it meant to him to be able to donate to a cause close to his heart, his answer was beyond his years.

"I think it is amazing, not only to be able to raise money for myself but for all Type-1 diabetics across Canada." Brochu continued, "I'm very thankful I get to help out for such a deserving cause, in whatever way I can."

Duke Brochu is a type 1 diabetic and is always on the quest for a cure. This is the second annual Skate-a-Thon he has hosted.

There was about 60 in attendance on the day, with some of the available Humboldt Broncos taking part in the skate as well.

Duke has been a role model for anyone with diabetes, and for all citizens hoping to make a difference, showing us that no matter a person's age, they always hold the ability to change their surroundings.
