The head coach of 2017-2018 Humboldt Broncos that passed away on April 6th is being honoured by Briercrest College and Seminary.

Darcy Haugan was a forward for the Briercrest Clippers from 1998-2000 before he started coaching in 2002. Haugan will be honoured by the team and the school on November 16th at 7 PM at Barkman Arena in Caronport, Saskatchewan where his jersey number will be retired.

Some of Darcy's family is expected to make an appearance where the uniform with the number 22, Haugan's number, will be taken out of service and will be presented to the family. Uniforms similar to Haugan's will be handed to his children as well. Briercrest is still deciding if the jersey will be placed on a wall of fame or hung in the arena. The college wanted to honour Haugan's legacy which was much more than just hockey according to Rob Schellenberg, the chief athletic officer with Briercrest college.

"Darcy was the leading scorer in Briercrest College and Seminary's history, but we are honouring the man and we are honouring the time that he spent at our school. Darcy always had time for everyone around him, Darcy was an amazingly talented man, but he also took those talents and used them for the betterment of society."

The number 22 will no longer be worn on the ice for the Briercrest Clippers.
