The Cudworth Stars Midget hockey team has been crowned the Sask Valley Minor Hockey League champions after defeating the PA Flyers 5-4 last night. 

The Flyers took Game one of the series on Tuesday, March 19th  defeating the Stars 5-4. However, the Stars battled back and won game two 7-2, setting up game three in Cudworth on Sunday, March 24th.

The Stars opened up the scoring at 8:06 in the first with an unassisted goal by Jack Bellefontaine. The Flyers replied to tie it up at one apiece going into the first intermission.

The Flyers scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, where once again the Stars had to stage a comeback. 

The Stars mounted their comeback early in the third with goals by Tanner Medernach and Brandon Hilkewich. After the Flyers scored the go-ahead goal, the Stars tied it up at 4-4 with Tanner Medernach’s second goal of the game.

The score remained tied at four at the end of regulation time sending the game into overtime. Jack Bellefontaine would be the hero, scoring his second of the game with 3.8 seconds left in the overtime period to give the Stars the victory.

Adam Schlosser earned the win with 25 saves for the Stars .
