Two local soccer players are part of this year’s provincial U17 championship team.

The Saskatoon Selects defeated FC Regina on penalties on the weekend to claim the championship for the second straight year.

“Everyone was happy and cheering and sprinting to (game-winning scorer Liam Collins) and hugging everybody,” coach Migen Misha said.

Team members include Finlay Hart of Humboldt and Damon Schwartz of Watson.

The Selects are going to nationals in early October in Surrey, British Columbia.

It’ll be a tough competition with strong teams from Ontario, Quebec, B.C. and Winnipeg, Misha said.

“Especially, they play five games in a week, one game per day. So it’s going to be difficult.”
