The Carlton Trail Ski Club brought a Valentine's Day twist to this year's 37th loppet; a Scandinavian term for a large, long distance, cross-country ski event.

Brad and Wanda Lefebvre have been members of the club for about 25 years and have organized the loppet for at least 20 years. After a couple of years of cancellations due to unsatisfactory weather conditions, Brad Lefebvre says the recent snowfall received in the area made for great conditions this year.

"Most people don't like to see snow, but us crazy skiers do!" Lefebvre says with a smile.

Skiers of all ages attended the loppet Saturday, and enjoyed a post-ski meal, camaraderie, and socializing with other members.

Lefebvre says the annual loppet was "rebranded" several years ago with a Valentine's Day theme, as Humboldt's loppet always lands on the second Saturday in February. The clubhouse is decorated in red and pink hearts, and the donated prizes have a Valentine's theme this year.

The loppet is an important fundraising event for the club as it allows the group to maintain trails and pay for upgrades to the clubhouse.
