Can-Am Bowl XXIII was a nail biter between Team Canada and Team USA.

The Town of Wakaw hosted for the first time in the game's history on Saturday night. Fans packed the Wakaw School grounds for music, food, beverages, and most of all football.

Both of the all star teams played under Canadian six-man football rules. The first quarter was an extremely defensive one with both USA and Canada raking in eight points. It wouldn't be till late in the second that Team USA had their first lead of the game with another six points on the board. With only over a minute to go in the half, Canada was able to engineer an impressive drive, as Quarterback Morgan Hildebrandt punched it in for the score. The two teams were all tied up at 14 after the first half.

In the second half, Team Canada started off strong once again with Thomas Neudourf of Team Canada scoring his second TD of the game. Team USA managed to grab the lead back before the end of the third with a touchdown and successful two point convert making the score 22-20 for USA heading into the fourth. It was a tight game as both teams scored a touchdown, shifting the score to 28-26 for America. However, in the last two minutes Team Canada was able to seal the deal with 14 unanswered points and a game winning interception. Team Canada defeated the USA 40-28 after 4 quarters of play.

The win moves the all time record for the Can-Am Bowl to 18-5 with the last Canadian win taking place in 2009. Rylen Bellina took home Offensive Player of the Game while Ryan Mills was the top defensive player from Team Canada.

"From the start of the week we knew we were the team that could win and we locked in and worked hard, I mean we knew we had a shot to win and it's a great way to wrap up our high school football career," said Middle Linebacker for Canada, Ryan Mills.

Canada will be looking for their sixth win next year as there is talk of Wakaw Hosting Can-Am Bowl XXIV.
