The Bruno Bisons rec hockey team is coming off a tournament victory in Las Vegas.

The team traveled to Sin City from February 18th to the 23rd and played games of three 12 minute periods against some teams from large US cities.

Brad Bassett helped organize the trip for them after hearing the team traveled there in 1991 and also won.

"Because we heard about the shenanigans they had when they went down we decided to inquire about it and with the internet it made it pretty simple. We found out about CanAm hockey and that they put the tournament on."

During the Winter the Bisons play a number of teams from across the region from Muenster, Humboldt, Viscount, Colonsay, Wakaw and Cudworth.

Bassett talked about the teams they played against durin gthe three day event.

"We played Salt Lake City and Los Angeles the first day and we beat them both games. The first game was pretty good, the second game was closer. The second day we played Scottsdale and they were a little bit easier, we beat them 8-0, that was a good game then we were in the final."

In the final they blanked Los Angeles 6-0.

Despite the win, Bassett said it's an event like this that shows how special the game can be at any age or level.

"Yeah it is, It's a true team sport. I coach my sons and there is people coached by their dads obviously, it just carries on."

Two other Canadian teams participated in the event, they also went 4-0 en route to wins in their division that were chosen on skill levels. Bassett said the manager of a Calgary team that was there mentioned to him that they sent the news to Don Cherry, hoping for a mention on Hockey Night in Canada's Coaches Corner segment.

Bassett added part of the fun was their travel to and from the rink, which was a SUV stretch limousine.
