The Humboldt Broncos trotted their way into the cage to try and clip the wings of the SJHL leading Nipawin Hawks on January 11th.

The Hawks boast the leagues fewest goals against with 79 allowed through the first 40 games and the centennial arena has not been a friendly environment for the Broncos who have won just two games in the cage over the last 5 years.

Both goalies for either team held the game scoreless after the first period of play. In the second, it was the home team Hawks who jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Logan Moon crashed the net and deflected a puck off his shinpad up and over the glove of Broncos goalie Rayce Ramsay. Just over the halfway point of the second period, mass confusion in front of the net led to an Owen Guenter penalty shot that was unsuccessful, but the Broncos wouldn't let that hinder them from pressing on. Just seconds after the penalty shot, Mitch Zambon found a loose puck and placed a perfect pass out front to Logan Foster who wasted no time to put it top corner and tie the game at one.

The third period was faced paced with the Broncos trying to find the go-ahead goal. However, it was the Hawks who would stretch the ice through a breakout of their own zone, race down into the attacking zone, and find Brodie Girod on the back door to take the 2-1 lead. The Broncos had a late push but could not find the equalizer. The Hawks added an empty netter and ended up with a 3-1 victory.

Rayce Ramsay stopped 25 of 27 with Hawks goalie Patrick Pugliese stopping 28 of 29.

The Broncos will have a chance at revenge and look to tie the season series at three games apiece the next day on January 12th when the Hawks will be the visitors inside the EPA.
