It wasn't pretty but the Humboldt Broncos picked up a key two points over the Yorkton Terriers Saturday night to close the gap in the race for the last playoff spot in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Tristan Hermanson scored his first career SJHL goal converting a Logan Schatz pass just 4:12 in, Josh Roberts picked up his third of the season at 7:43, also from Schatz and that's all the home side would need.

Lanigan product Shane Sherban cut the lead in half before the first was out but the offense was finalized there.

The Broncos' Ryan LaRochelle kicked aside 27/28 shots while Matt Kustra allowed two goals on 20 Bronco chances.

Hermanson was quick to agree the win was huge.

"Oh yeah definitely, we needed that. Especially after last game we played with those quick goals at the end there, we needed a bounce back after that."

In a quick, quiet and somewhat tame affair with just three penalties neither team generated much offense. Humboldt was 0/2 on the power-play, the Terriers had the one opportunity with no success.

The win improves the Broncos' record to 12-24-4-1, just a point back of Yorkton for 10th.

Hermanson admitted they were aware of the magnitude of the game.

"We knew this game was one of the most important games, we just stuck to the end, we outworked them I think and it came out in our favour."

Humboldt will travel to Melville on Tuesday, the match-up is just as vital, the Millionaires trail the green and gold by just three points for 11th with one less game played.

You can hear that game on your radio starting with the pre-game show of KMK Sales Broncos' hockey at 7:15, face-off will be 7:30.
